Easy pan-seared steak recipe

pan seared steak

This is an easy way to cook steak with a nice sear to seal in the juices. I find it works well with a strip steak, but if you prefer a cut with more of a fat edge to crisp up, go for it!

The cast-iron skillet is essential to the process as you can neither put a cheap skillet into a hot oven nor will you be able to sear your steak properly.

Preheat the oven to 450 degrees F.

Oil your cast-iron skillet. Preheat the skillet on the stovetop until hot. While it is preheating, season your steak to taste.

Once the skillet is at temperature, turn the oven down to 435 degrees F.

Place your steak into the hot skillet for 30 seconds to give it a good sear.

Flip the steak with tongs for 30 seconds on the other side.

Transfer the entire skillet of steak into the hot oven. Cook for 4 to 5 minutes per side for medium. Turn once with tongs while cooking.

Remove from the oven to rest for 15 minutes before serving.

Serves: 1.
